Well, so far I remain unimpressed. I don’t see ice climbing as all that of an exciting video game feature. They even skipped it in the demo gameplay, that’s a sign.
Additionally I don’t understand the “heart beat scanner” on the side of the gun. As far as I know, that doesn’t exist. If you had a heart beat scanner on the side of your weapon wouldn’t it just blip the crap out your own heart beat? Maybe I am wrong in assuming that the COD: Modern Warfare series is going for realism, but thus far I believe everything has been based on actual weapons and equipment.
The snowmobiles for me, are an unwanted addition to the game. Especially the fire while operating animation. I do like the effect of the wind on the clothing of the character though. If you notice your sleeves as you are climbing up the ice and while you are driving the snowmobile they have this cool clothing ripple effect.
I’m hoping that they incorporate a good deal of urban combat as well as a more toned down realistic enemy engagement. That demo screams G.I. Joe cartoon episode and I don’t like it. Call of Duty’s realistic combat missions and story lines have always been engrossing, they did a great job of pulling you into what was going on. Once you start flying down a mountain side going 80 on a snow mobile all while pulling off perfect shots on enemy passers, it begins to loose the effect.
Ultimately, it will come down to the reason why people are flocking to the game and that’s the multi player online experience. We’ll just have to wait for further developments.
